A never ending evolution based on Innovation and Excellence
The company was first established and incorporated in 1969 on a partnership basis between Sami Khoury and Robinson of Winchester (a prime operator in the field of Glass green houses erection in the United Kingdom of Britain) and operated under the commercial name of "Robinson of Winchester Ltd & Company Middle East sarl", a limited liability company, with Mr. Khoury (holder of a controlling stake in the capital) being appointed as the Chief Executive Officer.
The newly formed entity launched its operation in 1970 by producing and installing greenhouses, and was the pioneer in this industry in Lebanon and the Middle East. The concept revolutionized the agricultural sector in Lebanon and was of great assistance to growers. The company remained the only player on the market during the seventies and early eighties, and is actually one the leaders in this field.
In 1977 the company launched its imported quality seed line on the Lebanese market with Sluis and Groot, and again was the pioneer on the Lebanese market in this field.
During the period ranging from 1976 till 1980, Robinson of Winchester Ltd & Company Middle East introduced on the Lebanese market and some other Middle Eastern ones, a line of soluble fertilizers as well as chemical, organic and foliar fertilizers that gave a significant productivity boost to growers.
Again, the company was a pioneer in this field and remains actually one the prime players in this area.
The same period witnessed the launching by the company, for the first time on the Lebanese market, of new high performance irrigation systems, and was an instant success.
1985 was the year when the company witnessed a major change in its ownership, since Sami Khoury became holder of the majority of the capital shares. The company's name was modified to become "Robinson s.a.r.l", a limited liability company, with a new logo.
In 1986 management ventured in the field of crop protection and offered this service on the Lebanese market as well as other Middle Eatern ones, and became one the leader in this area by selling highly effective imported products.
During the year 2001, another corporate ownership change was done, and Sami Khoury became the owner of the company with his two daughters Roula and Nadine as the remaining shareholders, who were appointed as deputy general managers with prime managerial functions and responsibilities.
The company's name became "Robinson Agri s.a.r.l", a limited liability company, with a new logo.
During the same year, management introduced the concept of grafting on the market and launched its actually renowned plant nursery.
2002 was the year when the company entered into a joint venture with a prime Dutch company, THE GROW GROUP, a worldwide renowned leader in plants grafting.
Through this joint venture, Robinson Agri was able to offer the best technology and knowhow in this field.
One of the driving forces in the development of the agricultural sector in Lebanon, and a pioneer in launching many new products and services to assist agricultural growers in obtaining the best results, Robinson Agri strongly believes in offering the best know-how, products and services to growers, helping them therefore to achieve the highest performance levels, with great attention to effectiveness and efficiency in the business process.
Senior Management
This management level includes the following positions:
- Sami Khoury:
General manager, founder and GM of the company since its start-up in 1969.
- Roula Sami Khoury:
Deputy/Assistant General Manager, daughter of the founder.
- Nadine Sami Khoury:
Deputy/Assistant General Manager, daughter of the founder.
Middle management
A dedicated team of professionals with one major focus:
Customers' satisfaction.
This management level includes the following positions:
- Head of green houses production: This position is held by a highly experience technician who enjoys a background of 30 years of relevant experience in this field and specifically with Robinson Agri s.a.r.l.
- Heads of research & development (R&D): These two positions are held by two highly experienced agricultural engineers, with split responsibilities, due to the department's extensive business process.
- Head of Nurseries (ordinary and grafted nurseries): These positions are held by two highly experienced agricultural engineers, who monitor all the agricultural aspects, they supervise the operations inside the nursery from sowing till seedlings production, and delivery.
- Head of branches' operations: This position is held by a highly experienced agricultural engineer who enjoys a solid professional background from technical and managerial perspectives. His duties cover the supervision of the daily operations of the company's three branches which represent its main profit centres, as well as the continuous implementation of the company's strategic plans.
Front line management
This management level includes the managers of the three branches:
- Byblos branch manager, who acts as the manager of branches operations too (middle management level), who's background was highlighted previously.
- Sidon branch manager: An agricultural engineer with managerial skills.
- Bekaa branch manager: An agricultural engineer with managerial skills.
An organization's architecture designed for a highly efficient business process.
Green houses production department
- One welding expert with 25 years of relevant experience in this field with the company.
- One pipes cutting expert with 20 years of relevant experience in this field with the company.
- Ten semi-skilled workers with a strong expertise in handling different tasks of the manufacturing process and operating the related machines.
Products delivery department
- Four drivers responsible for delivering the company's ordered products to customers.
Business development department
- One head of trial station where plants growing techniques are tested.
- Forty workers in the trial station and the nursery.
NB: The two supervisors/heads of the BD perform on a regular base research tasks in order to be up to date with all the new techniques developed internationally and especially in countries with leaders in the relevant industries.
Plant nursery department
- This department employs up to 60 workers on a flexible basis, depending on clients' demand.
Financial control & accounting department
- One head accountant and financial controller.
- Five assistant accountants.
Administration & Human resources function
- Two executive secretaries who handle the routine paperwork.
Marketing & Sales function
- One marketing planner, sales supervisor and senior sales representative, with a long experience in the sale of relevant products in this industry and a degree in agricultural engineering.
- Twelve sales representatives with degrees in agricultural engineering responsible of ensuring most of the company's turnover by conducting regular field selling missions. Those sales reps are based in the three branches and report on a regular basis to the branch management and to senior management.
Central warehousing department
- One senior warehouse keeper.
- One assistant warehouse keeper.
Branches operations department
- Byblos branch (main branch):
One secretary, two showroom sales representatives, one warehouse keeper.
- Sidon branch: One show room sales representative and warehouse keeper.
- Bekaa branch: One showroom sales representative, one warehouse keeper.
